Administration
The Faculty of Physics at HSE was formed in October 2016.
The principal peculiarities of HSE’s Faculty of Physics are the following ones:
- hiring the best and most active physics experts to teach up-to-date courses, including first years of education;
- bridging the gap between education and the sciences through the development of a "core system", which can offer students intensive instruction in the fundamentals of physics during the early years of their study with an eye to further professional development through involvement in practical research carried out by the faculty’s founding organizations (leading physics institutes of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS)).

The HSE has climbed to 84th position in the Young Universities Times Higher Education Ranking. The ranking assesses universities that were founded less than 50 years ago according to methodology used in the main THE ranking, which is published in autumn.
From November 20th – 24th, 2017, the National Theoretical Mechanics Competition took place at the Kazan State Power Engineering University, attracting 120 students from 35 Russian universities.
For the first time ever, the Higher School of Economics has entered the Times Higher Education ranking in the physical sciences, placing in the 401-500 group. The results of the ranking were announced at a Project 5-100 conference seminar by Phil Baty, chief editor of the THE World University Rankings.
This year the first enrollment was held at HSE Faculty of Physics: since September 26 bachelor’s and 14 master’s students will start their studies at the faculty. They received student ID cards as well as promises to study in creative atmosphere with assistance.
On December 7, at a meeting of the International Advisory Committee, HSE Rector Yaroslav Kuzminov discussed the changes underway at the university and explained how the Higher School of Economics is working towards true international competitiveness as part of the 5-100 Project.
Students at HSE will be able to enroll in undergraduate and Master’s programmes in Physics, starting in 2017. Furthermore, including those working on doctorates, students will also be able to carry out research not only at HSE laboratories, but also several leading institutes of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), which are launching joint departments with our new faculty.
