About the Faculty

The Faculty of Physics at HSE was formed in October 2016.

The principal peculiarities of HSE’s Faculty of Physics are the following ones:

  • hiring the best and most active physics experts to teach up-to-date courses, including first years of education;
  • bridging the gap between education and the sciences through the development of a "core system", which can offer students intensive instruction in the fundamentals of physics during the early years of their study with an eye to further professional development through involvement in practical research carried out by the faculty’s founding organizations (leading physics institutes of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS)).

Competition for Research Labs in Quantum Technologies and New Functional Materials: Two Weeks Until Application Deadline

We are inviting prospective experimental physicists with comprehensive work experience in the field of quantum nanoscience to participate in the international competition. The candidates should hold a PhD conferred no more than fifteen years ago. The winners will be responsible for building strong research teams that will engage in active research in relevant areas. Starting in 2022, the heads of the laboratories will also be charged with attracting annual co-financing. The winners of the competition will be hired full-time as laboratory heads at the Faculty of Physics for the full duration of the project.

HSE Continues its Ascent in QS World University Rankings by Subject
The latest results of the QS World University Rankings by Subject demonstrate that Russian universities are continuing to make great strides in international rankings. Among the Russian universities that made the rankings, HSE tops the list with 16 specific subjects and 3 broad subject areas entering the rankings. Compared to last year, HSE has improved its performance in almost all subjects.

New Library Opens at HSE Building in Staraya Basmannaya
It will be located in Building B and is an addition to the existing library in Building A. The new library will be a space not only for those willing to go somewhere private with a book or a tablet, but also for teams who need to get together to discuss joint research projects. The library opens on January 16 at noon. The first 300 visitors will get to participate in a prize draw, which will introduce the readers to the library’s collection.

For the first time ever, HSE University has entered two THE subject rankings: in Computer Science (in the 301–400 group)and Engineering & Technology (in the 601-800 group). Therefore, HSE has confirmed once again that it is much more than just a specialized social sciences and humanities university, but rather a comprehensive multidisciplinary university, which has become successful in new, innovative areas of natural sciences and engineering.
